Lifeline provides 24/7 suicide prevention services and crisis support across Australia. Established in 1963, Lifeline’s mission is to save lives, provide connection and hope, educate and support. Approximately one million people access Lifeline services every year. Lifeline has roughly 10,000 volunteers and 4,500 Crisis Supporters across national network of 40 centres. 

A collaborating with Lifeline Australia and the Centre for Best Practice in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention resulted in a ground breaking report and Action Plan for an inaugural Indigenous national service: Wellbeing and healing through connection and culture (2020) 

This work makes a significant contribution to the understanding of the importance of cultural perspectives and concepts of healing and social and emotional wellbeing as they relate to suicide prevention for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people….recommendations of the report lay the groundwork for Lifeline to support delivery of a culturally responsive Indigenous designed and delivered national crisis line.

In 2021 the Federal government of Australia committed $16.6 million support the delivery of a national Indigenous crisis line.
